Postinor 1 Emergency Contraceptive

Postinor 1 is an emergency contraceptive pill containing Levonorgestrel 1.5mg. It is used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure, such as condom breakage or missed pills.

This medication should be taken within 72 hours after unprotected sex. The sooner it is taken, the higher its effectiveness, with the best results when taken as soon as possible.

Postinor 1 works by several mechanisms to help prevent pregnancy.
It thickens cervical mucus, making it harder for sperm to enter the uterus.
It slows down sperm movement and reduces sperm survival inside the uterus.
It suppresses ovulation by affecting hormone signals in the brain, specifically lowering the release of FSH and LH hormones.

When taken within the recommended time frame, Postinor 1 can prevent about 84 percent of expected pregnancies.
